The Kenya rugby fraternity has been thrown into mourning following the death of celebrated referee Daniel Chibata.

The deceased was the chairman of the Rift Valley Region Rugby Referees Society (RVRRS), a position he had held for three months before his passing.

He died on Tuesday morning after a seven-month battle with pancreatic cancer.

Confirming the news, RVRRS Secretary-General Robinson Kiplagat expressed deep sadness over the untimely death, urging the entire rugby community to stand with Chibata's family during this difficult time.

"Good morning, ladies and gentlemen. I come to you with a heavy and bleeding heart this morning, bearing the devastating news that our beloved chairman has been called by the heavenly Father," read the statement in part.

"This morning, at 4 a.m., Beda Daniel took his last breath, bringing to an end a gallant seven-month battle. Throughout his illness, the chairman remained steadfast, never losing his trademark sense of humor until the fight became too much and his soul could no longer bear it.".

"Mr. Beda had served as our chairman for three years, having been elected by the members, and he repaid that trust by serving the society with all his heart and might. This loss is immeasurable. In due course, further communication will be made regarding the plans and the role we can play as a society to give our friend a befitting send-off, as well as to support the young but needy family he has left behind. For now, let's keep the family in our prayers. May the soul of our dear chairman rest in peace," concluded the statement.

Chibata was a father of two daughters. Beyond his family life, he will be remembered for his larger-than-life personality and unwavering commitment to growing the game of rugby. He set a high standard with his passion, integrity, and dedication to the sport.

May his soul rest in peace.
