The win saw Kenya Legends clinch their third consecutive title, underpinning their dominance in the competition.
The win was historic in many ways. It was Kenya’s biggest ever victory in this fixture, and it also marked their sixth straight win against Uganda.
The two teams had already played the first leg earlier in the year, where Kenya narrowly won 19-17. That meant Uganda came into this second leg hungry for revenge, but instead of revenge, they left Nairobi with another heavy defeat, losing by a massive 33-point margin.
The aggregate score across the two legs stood at 70-35 in Kenya’s favour, the largest aggregate in the history of the competition.
Kenya wasted no time in showing who was boss. In just the second minute, Wilson Kopondo crossed the try line after a clever short pass from Darwin Mukidza. Tito Oduk calmly converted the try to give the hosts a 7-0 lead.
Uganda hit back in the 11th minute with a penalty kick from their fly-half, cutting the deficit to 7-3. But Kenya quickly restored control. In the 26th minute, Tony Owuor powered off the back of a scrum and scored under the posts. With the conversion added, the score became 14-3.
Collins Injera, one of Kenya’s greatest ever players, then reminded fans of his brilliance. He received an inside pass from Lavin Asego and sliced through Uganda’s defence to score a trademark try.
Kenya went into halftime leading 19-3, with the crowd already sensing a big win.
Uganda started the second half with determination. Their captain, Michael Wokorach, scored a fine try down the left wing to make it 19-8. For a moment, it looked like the visitors were fighting their way back into the game.
But Kenya had other ideas. Just minutes later, Injera took a quick penalty, released Victor Sudi, and the winger crossed over for another try. Mukidza’s conversion stretched the score to 24-8.
From that moment on, it was all Kenya. Vincent Mose scored a brilliant solo try, stepping defenders to touch down. Mukidza converted again to push the lead to 31-8. Soon after, Edwin Machanje added his name to the scoresheet, with Mukidza once more on target, making it 39-8.
Uganda did not give up. They responded with a converted try from a penalty move and later scored another through their forwards after an eight-man pick in the 71st minute. That reduced the score to 39-18, but their hopes of a comeback were short-lived.
Kenya ended the game in the best way possible. First, Injera completed his brace with a blistering run after a short pass from Owuor.
Then, in the final minutes, Mose also bagged his second try of the day. The final whistle blew with Kenya leading 51-18, sealing their biggest win ever in the Legends Cup.
