Menengai Oilers on Saturday ended KCB’s unbeaten record with a 21-7 win at the Nakuru Showground.
Oilers took the lead through Jadah Abdon’s try with Abutwalib Wesonga converting for a 7-0 lead.
KCB’s Lionel Ajeliti then scored and converted his own try to make it 7-7, before Wesonga’s penalty took Oilers 10-7 up into the halftime break.
He would then drill over a penalty and drop goal to give the home side a 16-7 lead before Clinton Odhiambo killed off the match with an unconverted to secure the result.
Despite seeing their record blemished, KCB remain in the top two positions on the log - with 44 points - and are assured of a home semifinal spot.
Victory for Oilers saw them remain third on 37 points and firmly in the playoff picture.
Elsewhere at Kenyatta University grounds, defending champions Kabras were forced to battle hard in a fixture that eventually earned them a 10th consecutive bonus victory as they beat Blak Blad 24-17.

Blak Blad then made a run in the second half to tie the scores 17-17, only for Dan Angwech to score - and converted by Dukisa - to bring up the win that extended Kabras’ lead at the top to six points.
To kick off the weekend, Mwamba were awarded maximum points due to Homeboyz not showing up for the fixture and awarded a 28-0 win.
Across the country in the lake side city, Kenya Harlequins put 31 points on hosts Kisumu, who only managed 10 points, while Strathmore Leos beat Catholic Monks 49-31 to all but confirm the latter’s relegation to the Championships next season.
