Arstone, a former Kakamega High School player, makes a return to his home turf in Kakamega to take up the backs coach role at Kabras, replacing Marlin Mukolwe, who has since departed the club.
At Kabras, Arstone joins a decorated technical team comprising head coach Carlos Katywa, forwards coach Max Adaka, Geoff Messo, strength and conditioning coaches Richard Ochieng and Alicia Ndege, and physios Philemon Odidi and Redemptor Chepwogen.
The coach arrives on the back of an impressive 2025 campaign that saw him guide Kisii School to a historic run.
Under his tutelage, the school secured a three-peat in the Nyanza region 15s, finished second at the Nationals, and went on to claim their first-ever Federation of East African Secondary School Sports Association (FEASSSA) 15s title.
Kisii School, fondly known as the Raptors, clinched the East African crown after defeating defending champions All Saints Embu 11–6 in a tense final at the Bullring in Kakamega, a sweet revenge after falling to the same opponents in the national final and group stages earlier in the season.
Arstone also oversaw Kisii RFC’s return to the Kenya Rugby Union (KRU) Championship after steering them to Nationwide triumph. Alongside these on-field successes, he achieved a World Rugby Level 2 (15s) coaching accreditation.
“Joining Kabras Sugar RFC, the four-time consecutive Kenya Cup champions, is a monumental moment in my coaching career and a significant honour.
It means stepping into one of the most professional and successful rugby environments in East Africa,” Arstone told Scrummage Africa.
“For me, it is an opportunity to contribute to a winning culture and learn from the very best in head coach Carlos Katywa and the entire management team,” he continued.
Having built a reputation for developing young talent, Arstone views his move to Kabras as the natural next step after his successes at school and the Nationwide level.
“It is a validation of the hard work and dedication poured into developing talent and building successful teams over the years. I am thrilled to be part of an organisation that sets the standard for excellence in the Kenya Cup,” he said.
Part of his vision will be to focus on maintaining Kabras’ high standards and elevating their backline play.
“My goal is to ensure we maintain our high standards of play and find innovative ways to enhance our attacking prowess and defensive organisation, making our backline even more lethal and efficient,” he explained.
“We have a mix of established international players and promising young talent. I will help foster the growth of these upcoming players, helping them transition into top-tier Kenya Cup athletes and ultimately contribute to the national team pipeline,” he offered.
