Kabete Stallions are back on the big stage after sealing a triumphant return to Division One of the National Sevens Circuit.

The Nairobi-based outfit impressed at the Christie 7s Division Two competition, played on Saturday, 16, and Sunday, 17 August at the RFUEA Grounds, to earn their slot at the Embu 7s set for Saturday, 23 to Sunday, 24 August.

The Stallions clinched the Division Two crown in style, outclassing Makueni RFC 22-0 in the final. Their dominance capped off a determined campaign that ensured they regained their place among the country’s top-flight Sevens sides.

Kabete will now line up in Pool B of the Embu 7s alongside Strathmore Leos, Impala RFC, and Kabras RFC.

The return is particularly significant for the Stallions, who have shown steady growth since making their debut in the National Sevens Circuit last season.

They finished 12th overall with 32 points in their maiden campaign, a run highlighted by a quarterfinal appearance at the 2024 Prinsloo 7s.

Though they managed only seven points at Driftwood 7s and missed out on Christie 7s Division One, their spirited comeback in Division Two underlined their resilience and promise.

Meanwhile, the announcement of the Embu 7s pools has heightened anticipation for a tournament that continues to grow in stature on the Kenyan rugby calendar.

The 2024 edition, which was not part of the National Sevens Circuit, treated fans at Embu Stadium to exciting rugby as Strathmore Leos, then coached by Kenya Sevens assistant coach Louis Kisia, successfully defended their title with a 19-5 win over Catholic Monks in the final.

Collins Maina crossed the whitewash twice, Stanislaus Shikoli added a try, and Arnold Mutai kicked two conversions to seal the victory.

The Leos’ triumph followed a hard-fought semifinal against Rugby on the Road and a commanding quarterfinal win over Administration Police. On their part, Catholic Monks powered past Stallions 14-0 in the semis and edged Embu Dragons 26-12 in the quarters.

The Embu 7s now joins the growing list of county-hosted tournaments, following in the footsteps of the Ingo 7s in Kakamega, hosted by Kabras RFC.
