The win saw them set up a showdown against Kabeberi 7s defending champions KCB Rugby.

The university side, making their maiden semi-final appearance, stunned Strathmore Leos 12-10 in a tense clash.

Kenya Sevens speedster Patrick Odongo got the Falcons off to a flying start with an early unconverted try, before Leos hit back through Victor Mola.

Clinton Amukwachi restored Daystar’s lead with a powerful finish to make it 12-5, giving the students belief.

Strathmore mounted a late fightback, with Mola’s second try narrowing the gap, but a missed conversion proved costly as the Falcons held on for a famous victory.

Head coach Caleb Bosire praised his side’s resilience, saying their fearless approach paid off.

“The game was tough. As you know, getting to the final is not easy. Coming into the game, we targeted to win all the pool matches. When we got to the semifinals, we had nothing to lose.

But the boys managed the pressure, forced Strathmore to make errors, and when they got chances to score, they did not misuse them. I am impressed by their performance,” Bosire said.

Strathmore playmaker Nygel Amaitsa admitted his side had been punished for their mistakes.

“Our mistakes cost us. Falcons had the presence of Patrick Odongo, who clearly balanced the squad. The final score,is what matters” he noted.

Meanwhile, KCB Rugby kept their title defence alive with a 21-17 win over Kabras RFC in a pulsating semi-final encounter.

The Bankers, chasing a historic four-peat at the Kabeberi 7s, are also eyeing their fifth consecutive final of the season as they bid to reclaim the National Sevens Circuit crown last won in 2023.

Scrum-half Samuel Asati opened the scoring for KCB with a trademark snipe before Kabras hit back through Kevin Wekesa.

Bob Muhati’s pace on the left wing and a try from Rayvone Ambale saw the two teams break for halftime with the scores tied at 14-12.

After the break, a penalty against Kabras gave KCB field position, which they converted into a crucial third try for a 21-12 lead.

Kabras struck late through Mathias Osimbo, but it was not enough to deny the Bankers another final appearance.

The defeat saw Kabras extend their struggles against KCB this season, with the Sugarmen now having been knocked out by the Bankers in four consecutive tournaments — Driftwood (semis), Prinsloo (quarters), Embu (quarters), and Kabeberi (semis).
