Kenya’s capital will once again be the stage for mouth-watering rugby action after the Kenya Rugby Union (KRU) confirmed that Nairobi will host the 2025 Rugby Africa Women’s Sevens Cup.

The continental showpiece is set to take place from Friday, 14 to Monday, 17 November at the historic RFUEA Grounds.

“Mark your calendars, brethren. More rugby action will be coming to the capital as we host the 2025 Rugby Africa Women’s Sevens Cup at the RFUEA Grounds from 14th to 17th November. Ticket prices and more details to follow,” KRU announced in a statement.

Preparations are already in full swing, with teams across the continent intensifying their training schedules.

The Kenya Lionesses, who will carry the nation’s hopes on home soil, recently held a joint training session with Tunisia at RFUEA Grounds as part of their build-up to the competition.

The Lionesses will be aiming to go one better than last year, when they fell 19-10 to South Africa in the 2024 final, also staged in Ghana.

The defeat mirrored that of the 2023 edition, where the Springbok Women edged Kenya 12-7 to clinch the title and secure Olympic qualification for the first time in their history.

South Africa’s dominance has been clear, especially in 2024, when they marched to the final without conceding a single point in their opening five matches.

However, playing in front of a passionate Nairobi crowd, the Lionesses will be determined to turn the tables and reclaim continental glory.

Their preparations will include a run-out at the 2025 Safari 7s, scheduled for Friday, 10 to Sunday, 12 October at the Nyayo National Stadium.
