Nondies RFC head coach Moses Wanyaga is confident his side can rise to the occasion when they face Uganda’s Stanbic Bank Pirates in the Enterprise Cup semifinals slated for Saturday, 11 April in Kampala, Uganda.
The Red Lions booked their spot in the last four after a composed 29-13 victory over Uganda’s KCB Kobs on Saturday, 21 March.

The win was a testament to their growing cohesion and ability to execute under pressure, setting up a tough semifinal assignment against the Ugandan Premiership champions.
Pirates, who edged former Kenya Cup champions KCB Rugby 11-10 to reach this stage, are widely known for their imposing physique and dominant forward pack, an area Wanyaga admits will pose a significant challenge.
However, the Nondies tactician believes his side can turn that strength into a weakness by shifting the point of attack and playing a wider, faster game.
Reflecting on their quarterfinal performance, Wanyaga praised his players for sticking to the script despite early difficulties in the set pieces.
“It was a beautiful performance. Our boys put into play what we trained and practiced for. We faced a challenge in the scrums as they were very dominant there, but our defensive work rate and our effort helped us go over the line and prevent them from scoring. Then we started playing our pattern, getting our shape right, and we scored some very beautiful tries,” he said.
With lessons learned from that encounter, Wanyaga is targeting a similar execution against Pirates, albeit with sharper emphasis on exploiting space out wide.
“So, I am very proud of that performance, and looking forward to a repeat of the same at the semifinals. A top Ugandan side, very big forwards, but I think we can match them out wide and a bit of the same,” he added.
Nondies will look to dictate the tempo and create scoring opportunities on the flanks by stretching the Pirates’ defense and avoiding direct physical confrontations.
Meanwhile, the Red Lions continue to juggle their Enterprise Cup ambitions with domestic duties.
They finished sixth in the Kenya Cup regular season and have booked a quarterfinal clash against Menengai Oilers in what promises to be a blockbuster encounter.
