Reading Time: 3min | Sat. 09.03.24. | 08:16

The bankers will be hoping to win the duel and draw closer to Kabras who sit at the summit after ten matches

Kenya Cup defending champions Kabras welcome their arch-rivals KCB in a top-of-the-table fixture on Saturday at the ASK Kakamega Showground starting at 3.00 pm EAT.

The crunch fixture is expected to bring to life the slow-paced Kakamega town.

The showdown promises to be intense, as Kabras, the table-toppers boast of an unbeaten record. KCB on the other hand are coming from a 21-7 loss to Menengai Oilers and will be looking to bounce back to winning ways.

The sugarmen who are under the guidance of Carlos Katywa come into this clash having won three of their last five matches against their visitors.

Last year, Kabras defeated KCB in the regular league match, final match, and would floor them as well during the Enterprise Cup final.

Ahead of the match, Katywa’s squad has been boosted by the return of playmaker Jone Kubu who is among the four changes made from last weekend.

Kubu last appeared for the sugarmen during their 72-10 victory over Kisumu in their first match of the season. He will be making his second appearance of the season, filling the fullback position after fully recovering from a nagging injury.

The squad will also enjoy the services of lanky speedster Derrick Ashiundu who leads the try-scoring chart with 11 points. Ashiundu had been sidelined for the last two matches due to illness.

He will be a great addition to the midfield and will partner with Brian Mutua who starts for the second time after his impressive performance from the bench where he scored six tries in only seven appearances.

Conditioned Alfred Orege returns to the right wing, with Humphrey Asiligwa retaining his position on the left wing.

Ntabeni Dukisa returns at fly-half. He will partner with Brian Tanga who missed the Montevideo squad due to illness.

On the other hand, Griffin Musila starts from the KCB bench for the first time this season, and he is expected to provide gas in the later stages of the game.
