The former MMUST Rugby and Mwamba RFC speedster revealed that the period will be crucial for his recovery, adaptation and building deeper connections within his new environment.

I am happy. It is more of creating new friends and joining a community where we share values and of course, grow together. I want to create memories here as I study. And of course, the language of training and play is German. So I hope to learn,” Mbeche revealed.

Mbeche’s debut was a sour one after he suffered a freak warm-up injury moments before kickoff.

I unfortunately got injured before kickoff. I slid on the artificial grass during warm-up and hit my ankle hard on a metal rail.

Still, I had to play. The team physio strapped me up professionally, gave me an ibuprofen, and I decided to swallow the pain and fight for the team,” he revealed.

Despite the pain, he put on an energetic performance in the opening half.

The match marked his first competitive action in nearly two years.

“After almost two years without a match, it felt incredible to be back on the pitch. New structure, new systems, different language calls, but I made some strong runs in the first half and felt alive again,” he said.

By the 60th minute, however, the medication had worn off, forcing him off the field earlier than planned.

By the 60th minute, the NSAID had worn off, and my ankle got heavy. I wanted to continue, but I could barely hold my weight. Stepping off hurt, but it was the right call,” he explained.

Although Rugby Klub 03 Berlin lost the match, Mbeche said the overall experience was fulfilling.

Yes, we lost, but honestly, I am fully happy. The experience, the energy, the support… I am leaving the field with a painful ankle but a joyful heart,” he disclosed.

Mbeche went on to thank his fans in Germany for their warmth and hospitality.

To the German fans, thank you for your warmth and hospitality. You made a new player feel right at home.”

Mbeche also hailed his new teammates and staff, describing the club atmosphere as one built on support and brotherhood.

To the coaching unit, physio, and my teammates at Rugby Klub 03 Berlin, your support, professionalism, and brotherhood mean everything. This team is more than a club; it’s a family,” he offered.

Mbeche remains a recognized figure in Kenyan rugby, having featured prominently for MMUST Rugby and later Mwamba RFC.
