Long-serving Menengai Oilers lock Brian Ndirangu has left the side to join a team in Vancouver, Canada, Mozzart Sport can confirm.

Ndirangu has been with the Nakuru-based team for seven years and was one of the team’s longest-serving members as well as the most capped player.

He played 108 games for the Oilers and was also the first captain to lead Menengai who roared into life in 2016.

He rose through the ranks to become a key player for the team and the National 15s team, the Simbas.

Confirming the news from his new team in Canada, Ndirangu was grateful for the time spent with the Oilers, noting that he would miss his teammates, as well as the team’s technical bench.

I have also had an amazing working and having a personal relationship with Coach Gibson Weru and his staff and to the fans, I will miss you and the atmosphere at the refinery during home games and the derby, to my teammates who have been incredible to me over the years, I will always carry you in my heart,” Ndirangu offered.

The Kenya Simbas’ backrower also pointed out that determination and discipline were must-haves for players to make it to the top.

At the club, we have learned that you do not have to be the biggest or the fastest, you just have to have the will and the determination and discipline to learn and everything you set your eyes on is achievable, I have had seven incredible years with one team, one Coach and incredible teammates,” he averred.

Menengai Oilers’ head coach Gibson Weru was happy with the news, noting that the opportunity will offer Ndirangu an invaluable opportunity to develop both as a player and a person.

Brian is a player who served us well and when he informed me of the opportunity he has, I was happy for him. We have mixed reactions, we will miss his services as an experienced player, we have developed him from the Nationwide league to being a consistent player for the Simbas,” Weru offered.

We wish him all the best and we are sure he will come back at some point a better player,” he added.

Ndirangu is expected to link up with his teammates at Westshore Rugby in Victoria, Canada.

He joins the long list of Kenyan players in Canada like former Kabras captain Daniel Sikuta.
