His announcement comes four years after a devastating accident forced him into early retirement.

In a short, candid video shared on his TikTok account, Dennis is seen lacing up his old boots and playing a bit of touch rugby back home.

“You guys are not going to believe it. I am going back to rugby for the first time in four and a bit years. It is only a little bit of touch rugby back at home after coming back to Kenya from the Africa Championships. Fair to say running around at 2,300m is no joke. That was bad,” he shared.

For Dennis, coming back to the game is a triumph in itself.

In August 2020, his life took a dramatic turn when a hit-and-run accident left him clinging to life on the roadside.

He had just returned from helping SX10 win the World 10s Series in Bermuda when his motorbike was hit by a car. The injuries were severe, threatening his leg and putting an abrupt end to a career he had painstakingly built across continents.

The former Shujaa speedster underwent his first surgery at Aga Khan Hospital in Nairobi before being airlifted to Cape Town, South Africa, where he narrowly avoided two amputation procedures.

Over the next six weeks, he endured seven surgeries and nine more months of painful recovery.

It was the beginning of a long, uphill battle. Through it all, his family stood strong, his sister by his side in South Africa, and Blitzboks star James Murphy’s family hosted him for an entire year.

Despite the tragic accident, Dennis did not step away from sport entirely.

Relentlessly, he transitioned into para-athletics and most recently represented Kenya in the men’s cycling T47 category during the Paralympic Games in Paris, France.

There, he served as a pilot for visually impaired cyclist Kennedy Ogada in the Tandem Road Race B1 at the Paralympics, stepping in for the injured Benson Mwaniki.

Dennis initially made his Shujaa debut during the 2014 Safari Sevens under coach Paul Treu.

He would later feature in the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series and helped Kenya win the 2019 Rugby Africa Sevens title.

Before that, his rugby journey had taken him through the UK, Russia, the USA, and Australia, where he earned a scholarship to play for Bond University in the Queensland Premier competition.

Now back in Kenya after competing at the Africa Triathlon Championships, rugby fans cannot wait to see what he has in store.
