Driftwood 7s: Battle lines drawn as 2023 Driftwood 7s enters knock-out stage

After a fiercely contested day one, the quarter-finalists of the 2023 Driftwood 7s and their pairings have been announced. 

The matches are set for Sunday July 9, 2023 with mouthwatering clashes expected.

Driftwood 7s: Kabras, Oilers, KCB, Quins take advantage in Round two

KCB Rugby vs Kisumu RFC 

Dala 7s champions KCB Rugby will face Dala 7s hosts Kisumu RFC in the first quarter-final match of the day. The Bankers have remained unbeaten in the pool after beating Nakuru RFC 17-5 in their last pool match. 

Kisumu RFC on the other hand narrowly made it to this stage. The side's 17-0 win over Homeboyz RFC was their turning point in this pool.

Mwamba RFC outclassed their opponents to top the pool. They started by beating students Kabarak University and Daystar Falcons before edging out Kenya Harlequins 17-14 in their final pool match. They will be a force to be reckoned with in this circuit. 

Kabras Sugar v Nondescripts RFC 

The sugarmen have managed 3/3 wins to see them top their pool. They will be looking to surpass their Dala 7s performance where they reached the final stage but lost 17-5 to KCB Rugby. 

 Mwamba RFC vs Menengai Oilers 

Their opponents on the other hand have made their first quarterfinals appearance after outmuscling their competitors in the pool. They will be keen to put up a show.

They will however be up against a resilient Menengai Oilers side that is looking to bounce back from their sixth-place Dala 7s finish. The Oilers are also bolstered by their status as defending Champions. 

Strathmore Leos v Kenya Harlequins

The Leos have been in sleek form, hitting Menengai Oilers 21-7 in the final match of the day. The impressive show saw them top the pool. The Leos will be looking to go past their Dala 7s performance where they finished third.

Kenya Harlequins too will be on a mission to avenge against the Leos. Their last meeting was during the Dala 7s third-place playoff where the Leos hit Quins 26-19.
