Christie 7s: KCB, Kabras face off in quarters as Quins tackle Oilers

Nondies will be looking to extend their fine form when they face Catholic University of East Africa (CUEA) Monks in the first quarterfinal

The 2024 edition of the Christie 7s enters its second and final day on Sunday, with what are expected to be thrilling quarterfinal matches on the cards.

The quarterfinal pairings were decided after a crunch day one of pool matches.

QF1: Nondies vs CUEA Monks

Nondies will be looking to extend their fine form when they face Catholic University of East Africa (CUEA) Monks in the first quarterfinal.

The team registered 3/3 wins in their pool matches to book the quarterfinal slot.

They beat Impala 27-5 before seeing off Homeboyz RFC 17-7.

Their biggest and crucial victory of the day came after a 17-14 win over Christie 7s defending champions KCB.

Their opponents, on the other side, booked a quarterfinal slot after winning 2/3 of their pool matches. They overcame Nakuru 21-12 before sharing 12-12 spoils with Kabras RFC.

The students ended their pool matches on a high after seeing off Kisumu RFC 19-7.

We thank God that at least we are in the quarterfinals. We will take a match at a time as we aim to register better results. No team is weak and we will approach all matches with the seriousness required,” Kisumu RFC coach Oscar Okaron told Mozzart Sport.

QF2: Menengai Oilers vs Kenya Harlequin

Hosts Kenya Harlequin will be in the hunt for better results when they face Menengai Oilers in the second quarterfinal.

Rugby fans know that any match pitting these two sides is always a derby.

To reach this stage, the Oilers won all their pool matches. They won 24-12 over Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST) Rugby before handing the University of Eldoret (UoE) Trojans a 12-5 defeat.

They ended their pool campaign with a 14-10 victory over Mwamba RFC.

QF3: Kabras vs KCB

This is one match that will keep fans glued to their screens/pitch.

Kabras, with a young and fresh team, will be looking to go past KCB, who are the circuit’s defending champions.

The sugar men started their pool campaign with a 26-5 victory over Kisumu RFC before sharing 12-12 spoils with CUEA Monks.

They ended their pool matches with a 12-5 victory over Nakuru RFC.

The bankers on the other hand saw off Homeboyz RFC 17-14 in the opening pool match before whitewashing Impala RFC 47-0.

They suffered a narrow 17-14 loss in the hands of Nondies to end their pool matches on a low note.

QF4: Strathmore Leos vs MMUST

The final quarterfinal match will see Strathmore University face off against their fellow students Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST).

The Leos won all their matches on day one. They defeated Kenyatta University’s Blak Blad 14-5 before sharing 17-17 spoils with Daystar Falcons.

A 17-5 victory over hosts Quins saw them end their day on a high.

MMUST on the other hand, received a 24-12 beating from Menengai Oilers before bouncing back to hand Mwamba RFC a 33-5 defeat. The fine form continued when they saw off UoE Trojans 36-0.
