Tributes have continued to pour in from teammates, rivals, and fans
The Kenyan rugby fraternity has been plunged into mourning following the death of Strathmore Leos lock Felix ‘Chano’ Odhiambo.
Chano passed away on Friday, 2 January, while undergoing treatment after sustaining severe injuries in a road accident on Thursday night, 31 December 2025. Reports indicate that the talented forward was hit by a car and rushed to the hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
Confirming the news, Strathmore Leos paid tribute to the fallen player, describing him as a fighter both on and off the pitch.
“Chano, a prominent lock, has been fighting for his life after a devastating road accident on the night of 31 December 2025. Reports indicate that he was hit by a car and sustained severe injuries that he ultimately did not overcome,” the club said in a statement.
Mozzart Sport can confirm that family and friends will gather at the Kenyatta University morgue on Monday, 5 January, for a viewing as burial arrangements begin.
Chano’s death has also cast uncertainty over the Kenya Cup fixture between Strathmore Leos and Menengai Oilers, scheduled for Saturday, 10 January, at the Strathmore University Complex. The match now hangs in the balance, with the tragedy affecting both teams, as Chano’s brother, Wallace Onyango, plays for Oilers.
The lock forward last featured for the Madaraka-based side in December during their Kenya Cup clash against KCB Rugby, a match that ended in a 72–10 defeat. His rugby journey began at Kakamega School, before moving to Laiser Hill, then Homeboyz RFC, and eventually Strathmore Leos, where he established himself as a key figure in the pack.
Tributes have continued to pour in from teammates, rivals, and fans, many remembering Chano for his commitment, humility, and love for the game.
Mozzart Sport joins Chano’s family, friends, and the wider rugby community in mourning the loss of a talented player gone too soon. May his soul rest in eternal peace.
