Since joining Djurgårdens in 2022 on a five-year deal, Odhiambo is yet to feature in the Swedish top flight
Former Gor Mahia defender Frank Odhiambo has explained why a move back to the FKF Premier League would be a step in the right direction for his career after parting ways with a Swedish club.
Odhiambo left Swedish third-tier side Karlstad Fotboll, as announced by the club on Sunday, 28 December, following the end of his season-long loan deal from top-tier outfit Djurgårdens.
Since joining Djurgårdens in 2022 on a five-year deal, Odhiambo is yet to feature in the Swedish top flight, having been sent out on loan four times.
In an exclusive interview with Mozzart Sport, the 22-year-old explained why he would consider a return to the Kenyan top flight.
“I am open to returning to the FKF Premier League during the mid-season transfer window. I strongly feel that a player performing well in the Kenyan top tier has a better chance of earning a Harambee Stars call-up compared to one playing in the Swedish third tier. “I would not mind returning home and playing competitive matches consistently,” said Odhiambo.
The Bongonaya Academy graduate also opened up on the offers on his table and what he would consider before putting pen to paper.
“Four clubs, including Vasalund, have expressed interest so far, none of them from the top division. However, I want to play in a top-tier league going forward. Gor Mahia are yet to table an offer,” he disclosed.
However, after loan spells at IFK Haninge, Vasalund, AFC Eskilstuna and Karlstad, Odhiambo believes he is ready to represent his parent club in the Swedish top tier.
“The loan spells have prepared me well for top-flight football. I feel I have gained the necessary experience and I am ready to make my debut for the club and in the top division,” he stated.
Should he feature for Djurgårdens, Odhiambo would follow in the footsteps of Harambee Stars captain Michael Olunga, who played for the club in 2016 after leaving Kenyan giants Gor Mahia.
