Battle for KRU Championship begins as Nationwide leagues enter knockout phase

The two teams that will make the KRU Nationwide final will earn promotion to the 2023/24 KRU Championship.

Teams drawn from the country’s third-tier Kenya Rugby Union (KRU) Nationwide League will be aiming to kickstart their quest of gaining promotion to the second-tier KRU Championship this weekend when they take part in the knockout matches across their five regional leagues.

The KRU Nationwide League enters its knockout stage across the five regional leagues on Saturday 4 March 2023 with the two teams making the KRU Nationwide final earning promotion to the 2023/24 KRU Championship.

In Nairobi, Administration Police will face Nothern Suburbs as Makueni take on Machakos University in the other semi.

The coast region will see Mombasa RFC face South Coast Buccaneers as Technical University of Mombasa plays Kilifi RFC.

The Rift Valley region sees table-topping Moi University earning a home semifinal against Molo RFC after winning five of their six matches.

The second semi will feature former Championship side Egerton Wasps, who finished second behind Moi, take on Kitale RFC. Kitale have narrowly missed out on promotion in the last two seasons and finished third in this campaign.

In Western, defending champions Sigalagala Polytechnic, who finished the season having won all six games, host Maseno University.

The second semi will feature former Kenya Cup and Championship side Kisii RFC against Kibabii University.

Central has Mounty Kenya University Thika taking on Kenya Prisons as Meru clashes against JKUAT Cougars.
