While Kabras made light work of Strathmore Leos as they ran in four tries in their 29-9 victory over the varsity side at the Kakamega Grounds, the biggest sporting story of the rugby season came from Gibson Weru’s Oilers who defied all odds in causing a massive upset as they knocked out eight time winners KCB, who are the reigning champions, at their very own turf at the KCB Sports Club.
The Nakuru based side, who were only promoted to the top flight in the 2017/2018 season, made KCB pay for their indiscipline in the game as resplendent fly half Geoffrey Ominde kicked in all eight of his penalties that led Oilers to the 17-24 victory over the Banker’s, making it to the finals for the very first time in their history.
In the women’s Kenya Cup competition that is being played for the very first time in the country, Yamanishi Impala Saracens and Mwamba RFC will fight for the maiden title in a curtain raising fixture that will start at 1300 EAT.
