This will be the second final meeting between the two sides at the same venue, a rematch of the 2022 showdown where Kabras edged Oilers 34-28.
Their most recent clash during the regular season also saw Kabras survive a scare, narrowly winning 20-14.
The final promises to be a tactical game with key individual battles likely to shape the outcome. The battle at 9-10-15 could very well decide the outcome.
Here are five matchups to watch as both teams prepare for the grand showdown:
1. Brian Tanga vs Samson Onsomu – Scrumhalf
Two experienced generals will lead their sides from the base. Tanga, fresh from Kenya Sevens duty, brings tempo, vision, and international flair to Kabras. His sharp passes and game-reading ability make him a key cog in Carlos Kyatwa’s setup.
Onsomu, meanwhile, returns to the Kenya Cup final nine years after his last appearance on the same stage with Impala. Now donning Oilers’ colors, his calm head and tactical kicking could be the key to unlocking Kabras' defence. If he maintains his current form, he could be the X-factor Oilers need.
2. Ntabeni Dukisa vs Samuel Mwaura – Flyhalf
Kabras’ fly-half, Ntabeni Dukisa, is the ultimate points machine. His boot is as reliable as ever, and his ability to slot in anywhere in the backline makes him a versatile threat.
A recent Kenya Simbas call-up under Regulation 8.2 has further boosted the South African-born fly half's confidence, and he will be expected to pull the strings for the Sugarmen.
Facing him is Oilers' Samuel Mwaura, a composed playmaker with sharp decision-making instincts.
While he is not a frequent try-scorer, his control and tactical awareness have guided the Oilers through high-pressure games. His duel with Dukisa could tilt the midfield battle either way.
3. Griffin Chao vs Beldad Ogeta – Wing
Pace and agility will be on full display when Kabras’ Griffin Chao lines up against Oilers’ Beldad Ogeta.
Chao, who featured for the Simbas in the Elgon and Victoria Cups, is known for his lightning pace and elusive runs, capable of turning a half-chance into points.
Ogeta, back in the mix after a red card setback, showed impressive form in the ESS final against KCB. Whether starting or coming off the bench for Dan Kipchirchir, his raw speed and hunger will be crucial for the Oilers in the wide channels.
4. Jone Kubu vs Abutwalib Wesonga – Fullback
Jone Kubu, fondly known as the "Wizard of Lurambi", is a magician at the back. His presence in Kabras’ backline provides composure and quick counter-attacking options. With his recent Kenya Sevens experience, expect some flair from the back.
Oilers will counter with Abutwalib Wesonga, who returned from injury just in time to feature in the quarterfinal and semifinal wins. His chemistry with scrum-half Onsomu has been vital to the Oilers’ campaign. If he can maintain his defensive solidity and offer attacking threats, Oilers will have a fighting chance.
5. Walter Okoth vs Samuel Ovwamu – Center
A familiar name to Nakuru RFC faithful, Walter Okoth has been a powerhouse in Kabras' midfield. With experience, power, and a keen eye for gaps, he will be aiming to lead Kabras to a fourth straight title.
Standing in his way is Samuel Ovwamu, Oilers’ second-highest try scorer this season with eight tries. The young center combines power and pace, and he will be keen to add to his tally in the biggest match of the season.
Will Kabras retain their crown, or will the Oilers finally stop reggae? The forest awaits.
