Should they maintain their unbeaten run, the ladies will make history by qualifying for the prestigious series for the first time

The Kenya women’s national sevens team, Lionesses, will be on a mission to complete what they started when they line up for the third and final leg of the HSBC Challenger Series, set to run from Friday, 11 to Sunday, 13 April in Krakow, Poland.

Fresh from dominating performances in Cape Town, where they clinched back-to-back victories, the Lionesses currently lead the standings with 40 points, six clear of closest challengers, South Africa.

The Dennis Mwanja-coached side announced their intent early in the series, edging out Argentina 17-12 in the opening Challenger Series final before blanking South Africa 17-0 in a commanding display in the second Challenger Series.

Their perfect run has seen them rise to the top of the log and cement their status as serious contenders for a spot in the prestigious HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series.

This final leg in Krakow carries high stakes, with the top four teams advancing to the playoffs set for Saturday, 3 to Sunday, 4 May in Los Angeles.

The Lionesses have been drawn in Pool A and will open their Krakow campaign against Belgium at 11:50 am (EAT) on Friday.

They will then face Thailand at 3:20 pm, before wrapping up their pool duties with a clash against Colombia at 6:28 pm.

Kenya has history on its side heading into the group stage.

In Cape Town, they dispatched Belgium 17-5, thanks to a brilliant hat-trick by Grace Adhiambo, before overcoming Colombia 12-5 in the semi-finals.

Although they are yet to face Thailand in this series, the Southeast Asians proved they are no pushovers by finishing fifth in Cape Town after a 14-7 win over Uganda.

Should they maintain their unbeaten run, the ladies will make history by qualifying for the prestigious series for the first time.
