2023 Prescott Cup enters semifinal stage

Prescott semis will be played on Sunday

The 2023 edition of Prescott Cup, an inter-school competition inaugurated in 1967 will enter the semifinal stage on Sunday, 1 October with a number of matches on the cards in different regions across the country.

Prescott Cup's sole objective is to develop rugby in Kenya at the age-grade level. The inaugural participants of the tournament were Rift Valley Academy, Nairobi School, and Lenana School.

Coast Region

Malindi High school was the first team to book a ticket to the nationals. Malindi were declared Coast region champions following a 19-03 win over Gede high school in a final match staged at their backyard Malindi high school on Saturday 23rd.

Western Region

In Western, reigning Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association (KSSSA) rugby 7s champions Koyonzo High School, National Prescott Cup defending champions and KSSSA finalists Vihiga High School, Maseno High, and Kakamega High School will battle for a ticket to nationals after storming into the last four. Vihiga will be looking to defend the regional and national titles they won last year.

Koyonzo have been drawn against Maseno school while Vihiga will take on Kakamega school in a fixture slated for Sunday 1st October at Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST) grounds.

Nyanza Region

In Nyanza, Prescott Nyanza holders Kisii school will be out to stretch their dominance in the region as they take on Kisumu county representative Nyabondo boys in the first semi final. KSSSA nationals returnees St Mary's Yala will be praying for Homabay high scalp when the two side face off in the second semis in a bid to secure Prescott national ticket.

Rift Valley

In form Menengai high school will be seeking to represent the region at the national yet again. The Okwemba Omela-coached side have been seeded against Utumishi boys Academy, while their counterparts and hosts Kabianga School take on Koelel in the other semis fixture today at 3pm.

Nairobi Region

In the national capital city of Kenya, Rift Valley Academy won the Nairobi region title.

The Prescott Cup is a Kenya Rugby Union- organized tourney.
