The two defending champions, Water and NCPB are facing herculean tasks in their quest as they play Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) sides Ulinzi Sharks and Ulinzi HC
Holders Nairobi Water and National Cereals and Produce Board (NCPB) are keen to defend their women's and men's league titles respectively as the Kenya Handball Federation (KHF) season concludes.
Despite heading to the final day matches in the lead, the two defending champions are facing herculean tasks in their quest as they take on Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) sides Ulinzi Sharks and Ulinzi HC men in winner-takes-it clashes.
Ahead of the women's league decider scheduled for Saturday 22 June from 1 PM at Nyayo handball court, Nairobi Water assistant coach Thodosia Sangoro admits the clash will be no walk in the park but maintains the league is their to lose.
"We are heading to this match without two key players in Michelle Oyoo and Brenda Musambai. While that's a blow, we have adjusted to this new dynamic and are confident of a win," the tactician told Mozzart Sport.
Water have lost once this season, to Rangers HC in the first leg by a small.margin. However, they overturned the result on 9 June, beating the same 33-15, a result that has Sangoro convinced Water have put their woes behind them and are ready to conquer.
"Yes, we have shown cracks this season but that was down to missing some key players, including Gladys Chilo, one of our top performers in the league. I believe with the squad we have, we can take down Sharks.
Their most recent result, a draw against NCPB Ladies also gave us perspective on how strong they are and what we need to do to prevail," Sangoro added.
Meanwhile, his opposite, Victor Otieno held almost similar views, admitting the match will be tough but the military side has what it takes to emerge victorious.
The men's league decider pitting Ulinzi HC against defending champions NCPB, slated for Saturday 22 June from 3 PM, has all the ingredients of a thriller as the two have won once in the last two encounters.
While this is a must-win for the military side, the holders could do with any positive result, including a draw as they hold a superior goal difference.
