Warriors stage stunning comeback as Police extend winning run in hockey league

In the Women's Premier League, defending champions Lakers enjoyed a productive weekend to continue their climb up the standings
Warriors Hockey Club mounted a spirited comeback to deny Green Sharks a first win of the 2026 Kenya Hockey Union (KHU) Men's Premier League over the weekend.
Heading into the weekend, Green Sharks were searching for their first three points since returning to the top flight, while Warriors were looking to rediscover winning form after a series of draws.

The encounter, staged at Parklands Sports Club on Sunday, appeared to be heading Green Sharks' way after they stormed into a two-goal lead.
Benson Papa gave the promoted side the perfect start in the fourth minute before Daniel Obunyasi doubled the advantage in the 15th minute.
Warriors, however, responded almost immediately as George Mutira halved the deficit five minutes later before Calvins Omondi restored parity in the 38th minute.
John Mark Odera then completed the turnaround with the winner in the 54th minute to hand the defending champions a morale-boosting 3-2 victory.
Green Sharks had begun their weekend with another narrow defeat after Joe Oburu's 49th-minute strike earned Kenya Police a hard-fought 1-0 victory on Saturday.
The two defeats leave the promoted side still searching for their first points of the campaign despite producing encouraging performances against two established Premier League sides.
Meanwhile, Police would complete a perfect weekend after overcoming Wazalendo 2-1 on Sunday.
Brian Aura had handed Wazalendo an early lead in the fifth minute before Moses Cheplait struck twice in the second half, scoring in the 49th and 53rd minutes to complete the comeback and secure maximum points.
Sikh Union Nairobi also maintained their impressive start to the season with a convincing 3-1 victory over Parklands Sports Club.
Sutcliffe Usagi opened the scoring in the 23rd minute before penalty corner specialist Mathias Gulalire showcased his drag-flick prowess with two penalty corner conversions in the 28th and 39th minutes.
Hillary Otieno grabbed a late consolation for Parklands in the 55th minute.

Maurine Owiti struck inside five minutes against Amira Sailors before Yvette Kanyandong restored parity two minutes later.
Debra Otieno eventually found the winner in the 51st minute to hand the champions a 2-1 victory.
Amira recovered to earn a point on Saturday after holding Kisumu Queens to a goalless draw in the lakeside derby.
Elsewhere, Sliders edged University of Nairobi Vigilantes 1-0 courtesy of Doreen Otieno's 43rd-minute strike before suffering a narrow 1-0 defeat to Strathmore University Ladies on Saturday.
Grace Bwire netted the decisive goal in the 60th minute to hand Strathmore all three points.
The Men's Super League continued to produce competitive contests as Strathmore University Men made it two wins from two matches.
They opened their weekend with a comfortable 2-0 victory over Wazalendo Masters on Saturday before repeating the same scoreline against Mvita XI on Sunday.
Promoted Impala Club also continued adapting well to life in the second tier after registering a 2-1 victory over Parkroad Tigers.
In the Women's Super League, Wazalendo Pearls produced one of the standout performances of the weekend with a commanding 3-0 victory over Daystar University Ladies.
Lakers B suffered two defeats, going down 1-0 to Daystar before falling 2-1 against GHF Rift Pirates Ladies.
The National League also witnessed another busy round of fixtures across the regional conferences.
Mombasa West picked up an impressive 2-1 victory over Gorillas before later sharing the spoils in a 1-1 draw against the same opponents.
Returning giants Ulinzi Patriots were held to a 2-2 draw by Mombasa Sports Club Men before playing out a goalless stalemate against Mombasa West.
Parklands SC Legacy continued their encouraging start with back-to-back victories, edging Daystar University 1-0 before defeating Snippers 2-0, while GHF Blue Pirates II and Nandi Hawks settled for a 2-2 draw.
The latest round of fixtures continued to underline the competitiveness of the 2026 KHU season, with established sides battling to maintain early momentum while newly-promoted clubs continue adjusting to the demands of their respective divisions.
