Tough outing for Kenyan boxers in DR Congo extends

A total number of 10 Kenyan boxers have exited the championship.
Following nightmare performances in the Africa Zone 3 Boxing Championships staged in DR Congo, Kenyan boxers continued to post dismal results with captain Nick Okoth becoming the latest casualty.
Former Africa champion, Okoth bowed out of the championship after suffering a 4-1 defeat by Sangue Alain from Cameroon in the lightweight division.

Other pugilists who exited the championship include light-middle Boniface Mugunde who was ousted by Steve Kulenguluka as the latter enjoyed home support at the Studio Maman Angebi hall in Kinshasa.
Debutant in the light-heavy Francis Denga also suffered a similar fate as he lost 4-1 to DR Congo’s Peter Kabeji bringing the number of Kenyan pugilists who have exited the tournament to 10.
There was a reprieve for the country after Victor Odhiambo managed victorious after claiming a deserved 3-2 win over Malonga Dival from Congo Brazzaville.

In the women’s category, Stacy Ayoma, Everlyn Akinyi and Lorna Kusa all punched their tickets to the finals after emerging victorious in the semi-finals.
Hit Squad are using the Zone 3 Championship to prepare for the Women's World Championship to be held in May in Turkey and the upcoming Commonwealth Games slated for Birmingham in July.
