Cricket Kenya Development Director Thomas Odoyo has spoken out regarding his suspension by the Cricket Federation.

The turmoil at Cricket Kenya deepened this week after Odoyo, together with Chief Executive Officer Ronald Bukusi, was suspended for a host of reasons.

In a letter signed by Cricket Kenya Chairman Manoj Patel, and seen by Mozzart Sport, the veteran administrator is accused of, among other things, participating in the campaign of a candidate in the forthcoming Vice Chairperson elections.

Odoyo was also accused of using his position to influence electoral interests, thereby undermining the upcoming Special General Meeting, as well as the approaching end of his tenure.

However, in an exclusive interview with Mozzart Sport, Odoyo hit back at Patel, against whom the board passed a vote of no confidence in July.

“I am surprised by my alleged suspension on grounds of misconduct for many reasons. For instance, how can I be suspended by a chairman on whom the board has already passed a vote of no confidence, a matter that is currently before the International Cricket Council (ICC)?” posed Odoyo.

He also addressed his association with Bhavesh Gohil, who is seeking to fill the vacant Vice Chairperson position.

“The accusations against me are worrying. The candidate they allege I am campaigning for is someone I have known for a long time, and we are members of the same club in Nairobi. I cannot avoid him, but I have not campaigned for him,” said Odoyo.

Instead, Odoyo turned the spotlight on Patel, pointing out that Patel’s associate, acting treasurer Ken Obuya, is openly supporting his brother for the same position.

“What is even more surprising is that the treasurer is supporting his own brother, David Obuya, for the same seat, yet nothing has been done about it despite this being a clear case of nepotism,” he added.

Odoyo further alleged irregularities, including forgery, in the list of 32 County Council members who purportedly endorsed his suspension.

“Some of the people who signed my suspension are not even delegates, while others have since reported that their signatures were forged,” he claimed.

As for Bukusi, he faces accusations of insubordination, abuse of office, financial mismanagement, unauthorized contracts, sabotage, reputational harm, and undermining institutional structures.
