GSU will be chasing a sixth-consecutive league title in the coming season set to serve off, tentatively, this month.

Kenya Volleyball Federation (KVF) men's league champions General Service Unit (GSU) and Kenya Forest Service (KFS) have left the country on Saturday morning by road to Tanzania where they will take part in the Nyerere Cup.

Heading to the tournament staged in honour of the country's President Julius Kambarage Nyerere, as the defending champions, GSU tactician Gideon Tarus maintains that their focus is more on using the event for their pre-season to test preparedness ahead of the league action than defending their title.

The competition serves off on 10 to 14 October and is expected to attracts teams across East Africa as they converge in Arusha for the event.

"We made new signings for the upcoming season and while I believe they have fit in with the rest of the squad, this is my chance to test how well the team has gelled and try out different formations. This is a good pre-season opportunity for us," offered Tarus in an interview with Mozzart Sport, adding that winning would be a bonus.

The paramilitary side has acquired the services Prisons Nyanza libero William Odongo who will vie for the starting berth in the position with Andrew Wafula and Gabriel Ndomboi. While they remain the undisputed Kings of Kenyan volleyball, winning the last five titles in a row, the side has struggled in the position since the exit of Noah Bett

Also joining the side is middle blocker Dominic Chelule who joins from TrailBlazers as well as the duo of Enock Kiptum and Mathias Kemboi from KFS.

While Tarus is looking to add to the team's depth he has to also make up for the absence of Simon Kipkorir and Abiud Chirchir who have since landed professional deals, the latter returning to his French side while Kipkorir has since joined the Tunisian league.
