Action continues on Saturday and Sunday at Nyayo Handball Court
"Lady luck smiled on us," These are the sentiments of General Service Unit (GSU) men's handball side's skipper Raphael Chege after his side picked a 21-20 victory against bitter rivals Black Mamba.
Coming into the match, Mamba had lost once while the paramilitary side had dropped points in two matches.
Both teams were toe-to-toe for the entire match, but it was GSU who had started on a high going 3-0 up before Mamba settled in to level the score at five goals.
From there on, it was goal after another and none looked to relent with GSU using their speed for the fast breaks while their Kaloleni-based counterparts remained patient infront of goal for the equalisers.
"Mamba played to our speed game but we are the masters of that and we took full advantage to oir advantage. They, however, had as good a match as we did but luck was on our side.
We had some loose passes and off-target attempts, mistakes that saw the match remain close while it shouldn't have been. We are happy for the result," offered Chege.
The match headed to the break in a stalemate with either side having scored ten goals and nothing much changed on resumption.
The biggest difference came at 21-18 in favour of the soldiers but Mamba mounted a comeback that fell a goal short.

The Abdallah Otieno-led Mamba will rue their chances as with less than two minutes left on the clock, they had a chance to equalise the score at 21 but a feeble effort off the seven meter line was effectively stopped by the GSU keeper and their fate was sealed.
"We are still on course for the title. We have managed to go past Mamba who are one of the title contenders.
We need to remain consistent with our performance and training then we can pick wins against the top two sides National Cereals and Produce Board and Ulinzi then we would be in a position yo fight for the title," Chege added.
