Soni maintained steady control from the outset in a showdown that tested skill, strategy, and stamina, capitalizing on key opportunities and displaying his trademark composure under pressure.
Wanjiru, renowned for her precision and resilience, kept the contest alive with several clutch moments, but Soni’s consistent ball-striking and decisive putting ultimately proved decisive.
The morning session remained tight, with Soni holding a slender one-hole advantage at the halfway mark. In the afternoon, he steadily pulled away, sealing victory on the 34th hole to secure his second consecutive championship.
“This win means a lot to me,” Soni said after the triumph. “Belinda pushed me all the way, and it took my very best golf to come out on top. I’m proud to defend my title here at Sigona. My great appreciation to my family, friends, Sigona, JGF, and NCBA Bank for their support.”
In the contest for the third and fourth places, Kevin Anyien from Windsor, birdied 6 holes in a hotly contested match to edge out Mikael Kihara from Vet Lab Sports Club 3Up at the 16th hole.
Speaking at the awards ceremony, Junior Golf Foundation (JGF) president Vincent Mukiri congratulated the players and acknowledged the contributions of parents, Sigona Golf Club, and NCBA Bank.
“I am excited by the level of the sport displayed by the juniors today. Looking at the scores, the juniors have technically played scratch golf, which is key to development pathways toward professional golf and college opportunities. We appreciate NCBA Bank’s role in nurturing sporting talent and thank Sigona Golf Club for hosting the juniors over the past four days," Mukiri offered.
NCBA Kenya Junior Matchplay Championship remains a highlight of the junior golf calendar, delivering another year of high-quality competition.
With NCBA’s continued partnership and JGF’s mission to grow the game from the grassroots, the event provides an invaluable platform for young golfers to showcase their talent, earn points, and prepare for success on bigger stages.
