A parent took a matter to court demanding for reversal of Team Manager appointment for World Aquatics Championships
The Sports Disputes Tribunal (SDT) will on Thursday afternoon make a ruling on whether Winfred Warui will be retained as team manager to the swimming team at next month’s World Aquatics Championships in Doha.
The team is supposed to fly out on Monday for the February 2-18 event that is also a qualifier for this year’s Olympic games.
At the same time, the tribunal has also overturned its decision to lock out Ridhwan Mohammed from the team after the United Kingdom based swimmer appealed a December 13 ruling.
Jen Monyo Maina has moved to the tribunal to quash the appointment of Warui as team manager arguing through her lawyer that the federation did not follow the laid down rules in making the appointment and wants it revoked.
Regarding Mohammed, the tribunal urged the Kenya Aquatic Federation to facilitate the swimmers travel and accommodation arrangements in Qatar.

This is after the swimmer’s lawyer complained that the federation has not communicated to her client regarding the travel and living arrangements.
“In regards to the reinstatement of Mohammed to the team, the federation has complied with that order and confirmed that he will take part in the 100m and 400m freestyle events. However, we have not received any information regarding the travel arrangements and where he will stay. This is standard procedure and should have been done a long time ago,” said Jacqueline Waihenya who is representing the swimmer.
But Winfred Warui representing the federation said the swimmer had not given them his travel arrangements to enable them to get him a ticket to Doha.
“He does not live in Kenya and therefore we would like him to inform us about his travel arrangements so that we can send his air ticket,” she said.
At the same time, the tribunal is also hearing a petition filed by a member of the public regarding the election of current officials of the federation.
