Seasoned Kenyan rally driver Jasmeet Chana is gearing up for his World Rally Championship (WRC) 2 debut in the upcoming Safari Rally, scheduled to take place from Thursday, 12 to Sunday, 15 March in Naivasha.

Chana, who has been a force to reckon with in the Kenya National Rally Championship (KNRC), is eager to test his skills against top-notch professional drivers in the WRC2 category, which he has enlisted for the first time in his career.

"As a local driver, I would like to win in my class. Anything better than that would be a bonus," Jasmeet, who is navigated by his brother Ravi Chana, an experienced navigator, in their Ford Fiesta Rally2 car, said.

He has a rich rallying background, having won the KNRC overall drivers' title in 2023 and securing several category wins.

He previously competed in the KNRC with his Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X but has now upgraded to the Ford Fiesta Rally2 to compete with the best in the WRC2.

Chana's team is leaving no stone unturned, with his brother Jaswinder Chana working closely with M-Sport Ford engineers to ensure the car's computer dynamics are perfect for the rally.

The focus for the team is on getting 'a good result' while competing with European drivers.

"It's a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to compete against WRC cars and WRC2s. It's a dream come true to be competing against the best in the world," he said.

"I'll be rubbing shoulders with legends like Seb Ogier and other top drivers- it's an incredible feeling, in as much as we will not be competing in the same class."

True to its tag as the toughest event in the WRC calendar, Chana admits it will be a challenging event. "But we are prepared. We are looking forward to the battle and cannot wait to get started in Naivasha."

Jasmeet upgraded from his 2023 KNRC-winning Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X to his current Fiesta. He has won multiple categories in Kenya, including Division One and Group S.
