
Ruthless Jaguars thump Strathmore University students at City Park

Kenya Hockey Union men's Premier League side Western Jaguars have bounced back to winning ways after flooring the 2016 champions Strathmore University Gladiators 5-2 at City Park Stadium.
Jaguars who had a double fixture for the weekend had surrendered their lead to play USIU-A Mashujaa to a 2-2 draw on Saturday at the same venue.
The Kakamega based side that has been humbling the big boys in the competition had to rally from a goal down as Gladiators took the lead in the 21st minute through Brian Ogeche's field goal.
Gladiators lead lasted for a minute as Edinson Ndombi replied for Jaguars ,sounding the board from a short corner. Jaguars scored the second goal in the 36th minute through Derrick Juma.
Gladiators responded a minute later through Keith Alusa who drew his side level through a field goal.
The visitors engaged in a higher gear in the remaining two quarters of the game, scoring three goals to register their sixth win of the season.
Bethwel Masambu scored the fourth goal in the 38th minute before Ndombi and Juma sealed their braces in the 43rd and 59th minutes of the game.
Following the win, Jaguars have firmed up their stay on the third spot with 21 points, three off former champions Kenya Police and nine shy of log leaders Butali Warriors.
In other matches played on Sunday, Daystar University beat the University of Nairobi by a solitary goal in a nationwide match played at the Strathmore University grounds. Lucky Iraia scored the match winning goal in the tenth minute.
Kitale Hockey Club narrowly edged Nandi Hawks in a similar scoreline at the Kapsabet grounds. John Miller's goal in the 46th minute separated the two sides at the full time whistle.
