Rhino Charge receives Ksh3 million sponsorship boon

Kenya Breweries Limited (KBL), through its White Cap brand, has announced a Ksh3 million sponsorship towards the 2025 Rhino Charge.

The sponsorship marks the fifth successive year between the brand and the Rhino Ark Charitable Trust, organisers of the event.

This year’s Rhino Charge is set for Saturday, 31st May, in Baringo County. The event brings in spectators, fundraisers, and motorsport enthusiasts to take part and witness the event, known for its blend of adrenaline-fueled off-road motoring and environmental stewardship.

All proceeds from the event go towards the protection and conservation of Kenya’s critical water towers and mountain ecosystems, stewarded by the Rhino Ark Kenya Charitable Trust.

In 2024, the event raised a record-breaking Ksh375 million, a benchmark organisers hope to surpass this year.

White Cap will, like last year, sponsor three Rhino Charge teams participating in the motorsport event. This is in line with the brand’s commitment to raising funds for environmental conservation and reaffirming its commitment to environmental sustainability. They include:

Car No. 25, also known as the Charging Hippos. This team features Sam Jethwa at the heart of it, a paraplegic driver who does not let his condition hinder him in any way, competing not only in the Rhino Charge but also in the East Africa Safari Classic Rally.

Car No. 19, the Bush Babes, the formidable all-ladies team, who have taken part in the charge for more than 15 years. Car No. 46, the Geco Tribe Chargers, which is a team with a strong sense of camaraderie, passion for adventure, and commitment to conservation, represents a curiosity to explore Kenya’s diverse tapestry of landscape and wildlife.

The sponsorship will cover financial support and logistical assistance for the teams, enabling them to tackle the challenging terrain while amplifying the message of sustainable impact through action.

Speaking on the sponsorship, White Cap Brand Manager Wema Mugofwa expressed KBL’s commitment to supporting environmental conservation through motorsport, stating, "At KBL, we believe collective action is essential for driving lasting change.

Mateus Finato, driver of Car No. 46—Geco Tribe Chargers, expressed his team’s confidence heading to the competition: “Preparing for Rhino Charge is always intense—we’ve been fine-tuning the car, testing in terrain similar to what we expect in Baringo, and getting the whole team mentally and physically ready.

It’s not just about speed; it’s about strategy, endurance, and teamwork. We’re excited and feeling confident. Having White Cap Lager back us again is a real boost—it helps take some pressure off and lets us focus fully on the challenge ahead.”

The 2025 Rhino Charge sponsorship follows White Cap’s active involvement in this year’s WRC Safari Rally, cementing the brand’s reputation as a champion of environmentally conscious motorsport experiences in Kenya.

This year’s event will feature 65 registered teams from Kenya and beyond. Apart from the three White Cap-sponsored teams, others will include five-time winners Car No. 5, led by Graham McKittrick, and past champions Car No. 4, led by Mark Glen.

Other top contenders include Car No. 43 (Peter Kinyua), Moto Moto (Rajesh Maini), Team AK44 (Adil Khawaja), BATUK, Team Huzi, and Zambarau Heels on the Wheel, among others.

Last year’s event, held in Torosei, Kajiado County, set a new record by raising Ksh325.8 million, the highest amount in Rhino Charge history.

The funds from the event have supported electric fencing in areas like Mt. Kenya, the Aberdares, and Kakamega Forest, as well as the protection of water towers and natural habitats across Kenya.
