The Tanzanian defeated Wanyonyi on January 14 at the KICC Tsavo Ball Room in Nairobi
The stage is set for another dose of what is swiftly turning out to be Kenya's premier professional boxing bout.
Kenyan and former Africa Boxing Union champion Daniel Wanyonyi will get a chance to avenge his loss against Tanzanian sensation Karim 'Mtu Kazi' Mandonga when the two trade leather in the new edition of the Repeat or Revenge Boxing Night slated for Saturday, July 22 at the Sarit Expo Centre in Westlands, Nairobi.
"We are very excited to get another opportunity to continue the journey we started in January," Kenya Professional Boxing Commission President Reuben Ndolo said on Friday afternoon, unveiling the fight cards for the fight night, sponsored by Ultra Fight Series promotions.
The ten bouts on the day, which will involve young and experienced boxers drawn from hosts Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, and the Democratic Republic of Congo, will pave the way for a new partnership between Sarit Expo centre, Ultra Fight Series and KPBC, with the plan being to host upto five fights in every calendar year moving forward.
"Bring him on," Kenyan boxer Daniel Wanyonyi said in the fighter interviews, flanked by KPBC Vice-chair Yassin Mohammed and match promoter Maurice. "I have never been more ready for him. I know he got the better of me last time but I am now welcoming him to Kenya where it will be proper trouble. That's what I want.
He talked about his punches coming from Ukraine, I have been there live and will properly extinguish his fire."
Mandonga, sitting across the table was ever in his vibrant state, shutting down all the noise from Wanyonyi and revealing his new slogan named 'Kigugi' as one that will demolish the Kenyan with a boxing record of 28-14-2.
"My new punch is straight from Russia," Mandonga said. "This one will be more powerful than the one I used in January and you know when I come to Kenya its a straight win.
"I am the boxer in East Africa and Kenya is my fatherland. Get ready because I am not here to create brotherhood."
Wanyonyi threw the towel after the fifth round in the first fight against Mandonga on January 14, setting the stage for a rematch that after a postponement in March, will be finally held.
In the other fights, Kenya will be represented by Albert Kimario, David Omollo, Raphael Mutua, George Ochieng, Kevin Musundi, female boxer Consolata Musanga and youngster Wilson Olembo - set to make his debut.
"We are looking forward to staging a memorable fight and all the communications on tickets and transport will be communicated in due course," Ndolo concluded.
