Kisumu Queens Hockey Club whipped Nakuru Ladies 2-0 in a one-sided Kenya Hockey Union Women’s Super League match played at Simba Club, Kisumu on Sunday morning.
Daughty Ranga was the star for Queens, scoring a brace as the home side cruised to a comfortable victory despite wasting countless clear scoring chances.
The Royals, who are featuring in the league for the first time, and have so far won three of their four opening fixtures, were dominant from the blow of the first whistle, pinning the visitors in their own half for almost the entire first quarter.
Ranga showed early intent with a solo burst into the box which ended in a wide strike in the 3rd minute.
Within ten minutes of opening play, the hosts had earned three short corners with another coming just before the end of the first quarter, but all did not bear any friend.
Sheila Mbone’s powerful shot went wide in the 17th minute, while Jepkorir Sandra's strike was kicked to safety by Nakuru goalkeeper Puleen Nduta a few minutes later
Evelyne Wanjiku produced Nakuru's first real attacking moment, dribbling into the D and picking her spot but, Queens keeper Lorna Awiti was vigilant to close her out.
Ranga was not to be denied in the 23rd minute, scoring her brace, from a short corner after connecting a recievers ball.
Theuri Grace came close a minute into the second half, but her strike was blocked.
The second half was not different with the hosts dominating, but Queens attacking failed on several occasions.
“We overpowered them. We were the better team. We missed 14 short corners and a lot of scoring chances. It shows how dominant we were," Queens coach Bryan Aduda told Mozzart Sport.
Aduda bemoaned inadequate training saying it affects their fitness levels.
"I am planning for an intensive one-week training camp to work on fitness levels," he offered.
Nakuru Ladies coach Alex Omwenga blamed the early goal for disorienting them.
"We did not expect it, and you know with ladies to them back into the game after conceding early can be difficult," he said.
