The course record has stood since 2010 when Eliud Kiptanui clocked 2:05.39
In a spectacular show of grit and sheer determination, 26-year-old Alexander Mutiso withstood tough opposition from 2021 London Marathon champion Sisay Lemma to clock 2:05.09 at this year’s Prague Marathon held on Sunday 7 May for the title.
The 2022 Valencia Marathon bronze medalist had the Ethiopian track him for the better part of the second half of the race but managed to pull away for a course record, breaking compatriot Eliud Kiptanui 2:05.39 record that has stood since 2010.
Another Kenyan, the 32-year-old Philemon Rono, nicknamed ‘Baby Police’ clocked 2:06.51 for third place to deliver a Kenyan 1-3. Rono has placed second in his other marathon of the year, coming home in 2:08:44 at the Tata Mumbai marathon in January.
“It was a good race, a competitive one as Sesay is a good runner. The last kilometer was very tough but I just had to keep pushing and I am happy that that last push gave me the course record,” Mutiso said after the race.
39 year old Viola Kibiwott PBs across the distances. Range!
