The side welcomes five key players who missed the last club assignment due to national team duty.

Kenya Volleyball Federation (KVF) women's league champions Prisons Kenya have stepped up preparations, albeit in non-residential camp, ahead of the CAVB Women's Club Championship set for Tunisia.

Confederation of African Volleyball (CAVB) 2022 Women's Championship will be played in Tunisia from 19 May to 1 June, coming immediately after the men's championships ongoing in the same country and scheduled to conclude on 18 May.

In their last outing under coach David Lung'aho who was holding fort for Josp Barasa, at the time attached to the national women’s team Malkia Strikers as they prepared for the Tokyo Olympics, the wardresses bagged bronze.

"We are hoping to move our training to an indoor facility from Wednesday 11 May either at Kasarani or Nyayo. Our resolve is to improve on our bronze from last edition's outing and from the look of things, it is possible. We are ready," said head coach Barasa in and interview with Mozzart Sport

Barasa is bouyed by the availability of some key players who missed the last edition as they were engaged in the national team at the time.

The side missed the services of libero Elizabeth Wanyama, middle blocker Joan chelagat, attackers Pamela Masaisai and Immaculate Chemtai as well as centre Lorine Chebet who are now available for action.

"With the return of the five, we have the depth to face any team at the championship. We will, however, miss the experience of Lydia Maiyo who is out for personal reasons. Compared with last year, we have a stronger squad and I am confident we can make the final," Barasa offered.

He continued, "We are working on every aspect of our game with an emphasis on blocking and covering both the front and back court."

Prisons are expected to be joined by former champions Kenya Pipeline who finished fifth in the last edition as well as KCB who did not attent last year's championship.

The Kenyan clubs are looking to break the seven-year title draught. Prisons are the last Kenyan club to win the title in 2013 after beating GS Petroliers of Algeria 3-2 in the final in Madagascar. They reached the 2014 final but lost to GS Petroliers.

Kenyan sides have struggled to reclaim the African title since with Egyptians Al Ahly and CFC Carthage dominating. The last time a Kenyan team featured in the final was in 2015 when Pipeline lost 3-1 to Al Ahly in Cairo, Egypt.
