Maranatha recorded their first-ever league victory

Kenya Volleyball Federation (KVF) women's league delivered edge-of-the-seat action as former champions Kenya Pipeline took on nemesis KCB in the highlight match of the second round of action.

The Japheth Munala-coached Bankers, who are out to defend their title started off, on the right note, taking the opening set 25-22 as the Oilers twice made a comeback en route their 3-2 (22-25, 25-22, 22-25, 25-20, 15-10) win.

Coach Geoffrey Omondi on his first cameo with a top tier women's team is looking to reclaim the title for Pipeline, this victory sending a strong message on their intent.

"KCB are a good side and we had to dig deep to beat them. They are playing and receiving well and have good attackers. Our services made the difference for my team in this game. They were to the target and at the right speed and they disrupted KCB's attack and that saved us as we had time to arrange our defense," Omondi said after the victory.

On his part, Munala acknowledged that despite the loss he could tell there was improvement for his side from how they played in the first leg held in Nyeri. "I am impressed," he offered. "We are looking to beef up the squad with a few players who are still in school and I believe we will be back on top soon."

Meanwhile, Prisons Kenya lived up to expectations, seeing off Post Bank in straight sets 3-0 (25-20, 25-17, 25-19).

Elsewhere, Maranatha made history by recording their first-ever league victory. Their efficient teamwork saw them sweep Young Spikers in straight sets, 3-0 (25-21, 25-16, 25-19).

DCI continued their perfect run in the league, overpowering Vihiga Volleyball Team with a commanding straight-sets win, 3-0 (25-16, 25-10, 25-18).

Exciting action awaits at Nyayo Stadium on day two of the second leg as Pipeline look to remain perfect in a clash against Prisons Nairobi.
