Wawira is taking part in the Games for her second time with Ogada making his debut

Powerlifter Hellen Wawira and para-cyclist Kennedy Ogada hope to salvage some pride for the country when they compete in their respective events at the Paris Paralympic Games on Wednesday.

Wawira, the 2020 and 2023 World Cup champion, will take the bench in women’s under-41kilograms at 2.35pm at La Chapelle Arena.

Wawira, 32, is taking part at the Paralympics for the second time, having finished fifth during the 2020 Tokyo Paralympics that were delayed for 2021 due to Covid-19.

Ogada, 52, piloted by former Kenya Sevens utility back, Oscar Dennis, will compete in men’s B1 Time Trials (28.3kms) at 2.30pm at Clichy Sous-Bois.

Ogada, who is on his Paralympics debut, will again take the course in the Road Road 127km on Friday.

Wawira and Ogada are the last Kenyans to compete at the Paris Paralympics with long jumper Samson Ojuka having taken the field on Tuesday night in athletics at the Stade de France.
