On their debut season, the side managed to qualify for playoffs and finish third for a chance to feature in the Africa Club Championships this year.

Coach Geoffrey Omondi says nothing is lost yet despite his charges, Trailblazers volleyball club losing all their second leg matches this weekend.

The Kenya Volleyball Federation (KVF) men's league bronze medalists found the going tough in a weekend that they played Administration Police (AP), General Service Unit (GSU) and Kenya Defence Forces (KDF)

In the opening match played on Friday, Trailblazers went down 3-1 (26-24, 24-26, 25-20, 25-16) to AP yo see their hopes of maximum points on the weekend crushed.

Omondi's charges played holders GSU on Saturday losing by straight sets before going down 3-1 to KDF on Sunday.

"We got the reception right but front court defense has been our biggest undoing. It was a bad outing for us and it was tough for everyone.

There are a few more things that are not working for us at the moment, attack being one of them so we have some work to do ahead of the next leg," offered Omondi.

The tactician admits that the exit of two key players in Dominic Chelule and Moses Omondi Sialo has left a gap that they are struggling to fill.

"The two were valuable players and their exit in the lead up to the second leg and the season is a blow. It is a difficult task to recruit, build and lose said players to other teams.

The team skipper, James Mutero was away this weekend too for work and his absence was definitely felt this weekend.

We are in the building stages of the team following the exits. We have lost three matches but that is not the end of the world. We will regroup and come back stronger for the third leg while readying for the Africa Club Championships as well," the tactician added.

The coach was full of praise for new recruit Obadiah Bundotich, saying that he was one for the future.

Asked whether he is looking to build the team around the youngster, coach Omondi maintained that Bundotich will take a leading role naturally but the tactician’s intentions are to build the team as a whole to avoid over-dependence on one or a few players.

His sentiments were echoed by team captain Stanley Mutua who admits they are suffering from a lack of team chemistry.

"Some of the combinations we were trying could not work as we have new players in our ranks and it will take some time for the team to gel.

This weekend's results are likely to hurt our targets for the season but we are going back to training well aware of the areas we need to fix. We still have 12 teams to play and anything is possible," Mutua offered.
