Incumbent President Paul Tergat is among the officials vacating their positions after serving two terms in office
The National Olympic Committee of Kenya has set Thursday 24 April 2025 as the tentative date for its elections, which will bring to an end the 32nd Olympiad.
The date was provided by NOC-K as part of a detailed ‘Proposed Roadmap to Elections’ and provided to its member federations on Thursday 5 December.
The elections early next year come up after a seamless period for the incumbents, who took office in December 2021 following a delay caused by the postponement of the Tokyo Olympics from 2020 to 2021.
In the proposed roadmap, a list of all eligible candidates for the 13 elective positions in the Executive Board will be circulated on 17 April - seven days before the polls.
And while the Centre for Corporate Governance conducted the 2021 polls, NOC-K indicates that between a 10-day period of 10-20 February 2025, member federations will be requested to propose names of “reputable companies suitable to be the Electoral Board.”
The process will be followed by the recruitment and subsequent approval / adoption of the Board, with a notice of the date for the electoral congress coming after a joint meeting to thrash out key codes of conduct, and information sent out to the Sports Registrar.
Following the polls, a 30-day window for Appeals has been set - running from 25 April to 24 May - with the election Observer and Returning Officer tasked to make a report to the Sports Registrar thereafter.
A handover date for the new officials has been tentatively set for 1-8 May 2025, barring any appeals.
NOC-K is set for its Annual General Meeting on Tuesday 10 December, where the full roadmap will be presented to respective member federations.
Incumbent NOC-K president Paul Tergat, who has already served two terms, is set to relinquish his position, ushering a new name to the top seat that will lead the nation to the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.
