Before departure to the Philippines, the squad will be trimmed to 16 players, meaning three players will be dropped
New Malkia Strikers captain Trizah Atuka is hopeful that the team will register positive results in the 2024 FIVB Challenger Cup and the Paris Olympic Games.
Atuka was appointed the new skipper on Tuesday, filling in the gap left by seasoned left attacker Mercy Moim who wasn’t drafted in the provisional squad released on the same day.
She will be assisted by Edith Wisa heading to the Challenger Cup that will be held in the Philippines between July 1–7 and the Olympics that will run between July 26 to August 11.
The Kenya Pipeline middle blocker is confident that Malkia will punch above their weight in the two assignments despite the odds being heavily stacked against them.
“I am honored to lead the team in the forthcoming two assignments. It’s a wonderful team that has covered a lot of ground. We will work together with the technical bench and players and register positive results in the Cup and Olympics,” she offered moments after being selected as the team leader.
Before departure to the Philippines, the squad will be trimmed to 16 players, meaning three players will be dropped.
Coach Japheth Munala is expected to drop three more players before the team’s departure to Miramas, France where they will camp for final preparations for the Olympic Games.
