Reading Time: 2min | Sun. 27.03.22. | 16:09

The side has won the Cup title since its inception four seasons ago

Skipper Gladys Chilo led by example, scoring six goals for Nairobi Water Queens as the Jack Ochieng-led side beat Ulinzi Sharks to win the Super Cup title unbeaten.

"This was an exciting match and good delivery in the first half and the first fifteen minutes of the second half proved crucial as the range we had created helped us hold on for the win.

Our endurance in those last moments of the match was put to test and we caved in. The main players could not perform at the same level and we made mistakes as a result," said Chilo.

It was a game of two halves, the first dominated by the Water Queens as they led 16-12 heading to the break. On resumption they stretched the lead to seven goals within the first 15 minutes of the half.

However, Sharks mounted a comeback reducing the gap to a single goal with a minute to go much to the amusement of the fans who had rallied behind the soldiers.

With possession and a chance to even the score at 29 goals, Sharks turned the ball over and held on to win 29-28 and retain the title.

"The team deserves this win. We have worked hard to maintain this team at that level and to post the results that we have over the year. Heading into the new season, we will look to maintain the same tempo with the intent of defending our titles," added Chilo.

Sarah Wasike was the star player for the soldiers, scoring eight goals to emerge as the top scorer in the match. Caren Letungeya contributed six for the military side.

Chilo, who scored six , was the top scorer for the Queens while Brenda Ariviza and Mitchell Oyoo scored five in the win.
