A win for Water will secure the title for them with a match to spare

Jack Ochieng-led Nairobi Water Queens are looking to clinch yet another Kenya Handball Federation (KHF) women’s league title unbeaten and as they face off with Ulinzi Sharks on Saturday, they will be keen not to drop points.

Ochieng’s charges have played 20 matches for 40 points and headline the 12-team standings.

A win for Water will also secure the title for them with a match to spare against National Cereals and Produce Board (NCPB), with a slip delaying celebrations as the military side and the millers still have a chance if they can bridge the goal difference.

Assistant coach Thodosia Sangoro admits that preparations for the crunch clash have been disrupted by the ongoing rains as the team trains in the evenings at the Kaloleni outdoor court.

“We have not had the best of preparations this week but I am confident the squad is ready for the match. There is no cause for alarm. We win the first leg match against Sharks and they were playing better than then than they are now so I know we will fight for this win.

Last weekend’s matches against Net Navigators and Rangers were good build up for Saturday’s match and we will ride on that momentum. Winning against Rangers also gave us more conviction that we can beat Sharks as the military side lost when the two sides met,” Sangoro offered.

The tactician is, however warry of missing the services of Gladys Chilo who picked an injury last weekend against Rangers.

“She is a key player in the squad and her contribution is immense and her absence could be felt. However, we will assess her and hopefully she will be cleared to feature,” Sangoro explained.
