Mutua tips Traiblazers to turn season around in KVF third leg action

The side is also preparing for their CAVB Club Championships debut in May

Skipper Stanley Mutua, says expectations for a better show for Kenya Volleyball Federation (KVF) men’s league bronze medalists, Trailblazers are high ahead of the third leg set for this weekend.

The Geoffrey Omondi-coached Trailblazers are scheduled to play Vihiga Club on Friday 10 March, Prisons Kenya on Saturday and Equity Bank on Sunday as they look to get back to winning ways after second leg to forget.

Up against Administration Police (AP), General Service Unit (GSU) and Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) in the second leg, Omondi’s charges lost all three matches but Mutua believes they have sealed all loopholes and ready to turn their fortunes around.

“There were a lot of lessons to learn from the second leg and adjustments to be made. We went back to the proverbial drawing board and have been constantly working on both technical and tactical aspects of our game as well as the mental.

We needed to work on our side outs and service among other technical aspects. Our execution also had to change both in defense and on attack and that meant a complete overhaul of our training.

All the players have also had sessions aimed at strengthening their mental approach to situations on and off the court. Despite the losses, we have picked many positives from this season and that helped us to focus on improving the weaknesses. I am confident of a good show,” Mutua offered.

The skipper admits that having to adjust to new formations following the exit of some key players and inclusion of some youngsters who are still learning the ropes of top tier volleyball has had its effects.

However, in a quick rejoinder, Mutua says the youngsters have settled in fast and are expected to give the ‘big boys’ a run for their money. “Preparing the new players mentally for this leg has been an integral part of our preparations and we expect a good show from everyone now,” Mutua added.
