The two only participants in the women's competition size up again on Saturday from 1700 EAT
Kenya women’s volleyball side - Malkia Strikers - began their 2024 CAVB Zone 5 African Games Qualifiers on a losing note, as they lost 3-1 (25-19, 24-26, 25-19, 25-23) to hosts Egypt in a Friday evening game played at Police Sports Hall.

Malkia Strikers are participating in these games as they offer a chance to represent the country in the Africa Games in March.
However, with only two nations on the women’s side, the two teams; Egypt and Kenya, have already secured slots to the games, and will face each other in the Zone V Championships for another game, with a Kenyan win prompting a third matchup that will serve as a tiebreak for the eventual champion.
Saturday’s game will take place at Police Sports Hall at 1700 EAT.
On Friday however, it was Egypt who settled into the match early on as they broke out to an 25-19 opening set win that was well responded to by Japheth Munala’s squad for a 24-26 leveler in the second set.
Things got worse for Malkia Strikers when Egypt, 3-0 losers of African Volleyball Nations Championship to Kenya last year, took the third set 25-19, before fighting a brave Kenyan rally to close out the fourth 25-23.
Elsewhere, Wafalme Stars will kick off their campaign on Saturday when they take on Burundi at the same venue from 1900 EAT, before facing Egypt on Sunday for the top two qualifying slots.
