The trade that had been rumored for quite some time has now become a reality — the Greek superstar will continue his career with the Florida-based franchise

The potentially biggest trade of the summer was completed on the eve of the NBA Draft — Milwaukee Bucks icon Giannis Antetokounmpo has left the franchise after 13 years and will become the new superstar of the Miami Heat.

For weeks, rumors had been circulating, and many were skeptical that Giannis would actually leave after several unsuccessful attempts in recent weeks. However, legendary executive Pat Riley ultimately managed to bring one of the biggest stars in world basketball to a franchise that has long been craving a player of this caliber. According to ESPN, Miami emptied its treasure chest to secure Antetokounmpo’s services.

In return, the Bucks will receive four players: Tyler Herro, Kel’el Ware, Jaime Jaquez Jr., and Kasparas Jakucionis, along with three first-round draft picks, including this year’s No. 13 overall selection, a pick swap, and a second-round pick. More specifically, the Heat are sending unprotected first-round picks in 2031 and 2033, a 2030 pick swap, and a 2033 second-round selection. Miami will also acquire Bobby Portis as part of the deal.

Miami president Pat Riley has pulled off another blockbuster move for the history books. Over the past 30 years, before landing Antetokounmpo, he was responsible for bringing stars such as LeBron James, Shaquille O’Neal, Chris Bosh, Jimmy Butler, and Alonzo Mourning to the Heat. He now creates a formidable frontcourt duo featuring Giannis and Bam Adebayo.

The Heat instantly become one of the contenders to reach the Eastern Conference Finals, although it is clear that the storied Florida franchise will still need to fine-tune its roster so that Giannis and Bam are surrounded by enough shooting and playmaking talent.

According to ESPN analyst Bobby Marks, who is highly regarded for his expertise on NBA finances, Giannis will become eligible on January 6 of next year to sign a massive four-year, $275 million contract extension if he opts out of the final year of his current deal, which would pay him more than $62 million during the 2027–28 season. Alternatively, under the same circumstances, he could sign a three-year extension worth $214 million.
