The Kisumu-based side narrowly went down 1-0 to visiting Strathmore University in a match they dominated in the final two quarters last week

Lakers Hockey Club bounced back with a resounding 4-0 hammering of Sliders in the Kenya Hockey Union, KHU Women's Premier match played at City Park on Saturday.

A brace each from Debrah Otieno and Maureen Owiti sealed the big win which saw Lakers move to third in the table standings with seven points from five games.

The Team Manager John Paul Otieno attributed the win to proper preparation.

"We went to camp on Wednesday and trained together until we departed for Nairobi for the game. This gave us enough time to correct the mistakes we made against Strathmore and also to bond together," Otieno told Mozzart Sport.

Winning by a big margin Otieno says gives his side a better survival chance as the league is competitive.

"Scoring four goals against Sliders is quite morale boosting; again it is very important because the league is quite competitive and may be decided by just goal difference."

Lakers will next face multiple champion Blazers on Sunday before they return to Kisumu for a series of home fixtures.

"The game against the Blazers is not going to be easy, but our intention is to continue winning. The girls are in good shape and I believe they will give their best in the game."

Log leaders Strathmore University continued with their impressive start to the season, beating Sailers 3-0 to increase their points tally to 18.

Strathmore have now won six straight matches. They have defeated Lakers (1-0), Sliders (2-0), Wolverines (1-0), Sailors (2-0) and defending champions Blazers (2-0).
