KSSSA: No major upsets as National School Games kick off

In boys’ hockey, defending champions Musingu began their title defense with a 1-0 win over Matiliku

There were no major upsets as the Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association (KSSSA) Term One games kicked off on Tuesday, 8 April, in Mombasa.

The girls’ hockey competition saw one-sided results in several matches, with 2024 Federation of East Africa Secondary Schools Sports Association (FEASSSA) thumping St. Charles Lwanga 7-0, while national defending champions Tigoi Girls outclassed St. John’s Kaloleni with a 6-0 win.

Ng’iya Girls registered a hard-fought 2-1 win over M-Pesa Academy, and Mwiki picked up maximum points with a 2-0 result against AIC Nyayo.

In boys’ hockey, defending champions Musingu began their title defense with a 1-0 win over Matiliku.

Former champions St. Anthony’s Kitale also made a strong start, edging Hospital Hill 3-1, while Ringa Boys were held to a goalless draw by St. Charles Lwanga.

M-Pesa Foundation Academy secured a narrow 1-0 victory over Mnyezeni.

In handball boys’, Narobi region champions Highway High School delivered a dominant performance, beating Sabunley Secondary 53-12 in one of the biggest wins of the day.

Western region champions and defending champions Kimilili High School also impressed with a 36-19 win over Jaribuni, while Manyatta and Kamito recorded wins over Matiliku (38-24) and Makuyu (23-14), respectively.

In the handball girls’ matches, Kyeni Girls produced a ruthless display, beating Hon. DM Amin 53-6. Defending champions Moi Girls Kamusinga started their campaign with a solid 30-12 win over Dagoretti Mixed.

St. Joseph’s Girls Kitale also cruised past Thika Girls 39-7, and Kadika held on to beat Moi Forces Academy, Mombasa, 21-15 in a competitive fixture.

In girls’ basketball, Western region champions Butere Girls began their basketball campaign in emphatic fashion with a 70-40 victory over St. Joseph’s Girls Kitale.

In rugby 15’s defending champions, All Saints Embu, kicked off their campaign with a narrow 3-0 win over Serani in a tightly contested match, while Vihiga High School edged out Kisii School 11-9 in another closely fought tie.

In other fixtures, Upper Hill School recorded a comfortable 28-5 win against Mang’u School, while Bwake Boys came from behind to beat Marafa 13-9.
