KICOSCA on the spotlight as illegitimate officials blatantly disobey court orders

The development comes in even as the organization hosts this year's EALASCA Games
Several members affiliated to the Kenya Inter-Counties Sports and Cultural Association have expressed grievances about the legitimacy of current officials, even as plans to host the East Africa Local Authorities Cultural Association (EALASCA) slated for 26 January to 2 February are well underway.
According to sources close to the institution, there is fear that the officials in leadership capacity: John Ang’awa (chairman) Kimutai Sitinei (secretary) and Daniel Gakuo (treasurer) have been running office affairs despite them being given no mandate to do so in a Chief Magistrate Court ruling in Kericho last October.
Treasurer Mr. Gakuo has since resigned.
Following a period of leadership wrangles at KICOSCA, one that forced the intervention of the Chief Registrar for their inability to comply with election guidelines, an interim committee was formed by members from two conflicting parties.
But in a move to be recognized as the institution’s signatories, the aforementioned duo, from a Notice of Motion application on 10 August 2023, were handed the mandate to operate KICOSCA’s KCB Bank Account in Kericho.
But in a 3 October 2023 ruling by Chief Magistrate C.O Obulutsa, interim orders in favor of the three were vacated, and KICOSCA matters and management of bank accounts handed back to the legally constituted office whose members are: John Ang'awa (Chairman), Humphrey Kang'ea ( Secretary General) and Lucy Sosion Kimiti.
Despite the court order asking for the said parties to comply within 21 days, as per a KICOSCA letter dated 20 December inviting select county members to the planned EALASCA games seen by Mozzart Sport, Kimutai Sitenei is still in capacity as he signed off the invite in his position of National Secretary General.
The matter has not gone unnoticed by members, who claim that the two continue to run the office illegally.
With talks to hold the EALASCA games in Rwanda last year already stalled, it is said that there is uncertainty about how many countries will avail themselves for the championships in Kisumu county, even as letters to County Governments asking for the release of sportsmen and women selected in August in Siaya continue to be circulated.
