The Committee is set to hold fresh elections on Thursday 19 June

The formation of a normalisation committee will be the only alternative should the National Olympic Committee of Kenya (NOC-K) fail to hold their elections as planned, the Sports Disputes Tribunal (SDT) said on Tuesday, 17 June.

After their failed electoral congress on Thursday, 24 April, NOC-K finds itself in a tricky situation, as it plans to hold fresh polls on Thursday, 19 June.

The pressure to make sure everything goes on as scheduled was heightened by SDT member Allan Mola, as he laid out the ramifications of another stalemate this week.

“In the event the elections do not take place on the 19th June 2025 for any reason not attributed to Force Majeure or external judicial restraint, the Cabinet Secretary Ministry of Youth Affairs, Creative Economy and Sports is invited to intervene and establish a normalization committee to oversee the affairs of NOC-K and ensure timely and lawful conduct of elections, any other reliefs sort by the claimant is not granted,” Mola ordered.

The Mombasa-based lawyer, who also dismissed a case challenging the legality of the current NOC-K Executive Board, also ordered the planned elections to take place under the NOC-K constitution and rules set by the electoral board.

Following the resignation of Kenya Rugby Union (KRU) Chairman Sasha Mutai, his replacement Harriet Okatch has been drafted as one of the delegates, together with Raymond Olendo.

In basketball, Kenya Basketball Federation (KBF) Secretary General Angela Luchivya’s name appears in place of former Chairman Paul Otula, who passed away on Thursday, 1 May.

In April, four federations - Kenya Volleyball Federation (KVF), Kenya Handball Federation (KHF), Kenya Triathlon Federation, and Kenya Taekwondo Federation - forced the adjournment of the planned polls after failing to agree on their respective voting officials.
